The add-on was launched under the name Super 32X in Japan, Genesis 32X in North America, Mega Drive 32X in the PAL region, and Mega 32X in Brazil. Project Mars, more popularly known as the Sega 32X was the second of the two major hardware add-ons manufactured by Sega in late 1994, to complement the Sega Genesis video game console by doubling up its computing power and graphics.
